Paragraph Comprehension
The “Paragraph Comprehension” subtest is a VERY important part of your AFQT score. This section includes locating main ideas in what the paragraphs are relaying, remembering details, drawing conclusions and paraphrasing what you have read. The questions will ask the test-takers to analyze paragraphs while comprehending the ideas presented.
Four types of questioning
The questions in this section of the ASVAB will be relayed in four main types such as word knowledge, vocabulary, fact and main idea questions. These questions will require identifying facts. This subtest is combined with other subtest scores in deciding your AFQT score. The higher your AFQT score is, the more choices you will be afforded referencing military jobs.
This test consists of fifteen questions. It is very important when performing the sub test that you will be required to draw conclusions based on facts from the paragraphs offered. It is imperative that you relay the conclusion on facts from the paragraph in comparison to your opinion.
Identifying particular points in paragraphs
You will also be asked to identify main points of paragraphs. It proves important not only in the military but our every day lives to comprehend what we read. The “Paragraph Comprehension” subtest measures your ability to comprehend what you read while applying your knowledge to the task before you.
Military jobs in relation to “Paragraph Comprehension”
There is an abundance of military jobs requiring adequate scores on “Paragraph Comprehension.” In the US Army, clerical jobs, food jobs and skilled technical jobs require a good “Paragraph Comprehension” score. In the US Navy and Coastguard, administrative jobs, nuclear jobs, administrative jobs and health career jobs require adequate scores from this test. In the Marine Corp, technical and clerical jobs require adequate scores from this test and in the Air Force; general and administrative jobs require adequate scores from the sub test.
